'8-to-8 box' : Sleep Innovation

If you are reading this blog after 8 pm on an electronic device then please skip it for now. You may read this tomorrow morning. I know it is crazy to start an article this way as an author but you will know the reasons behind it as you read through this blog.

Business is all about people. And people are full of potential whether you see it or it is hidden. But what happens when the same people in the world have sleep disorders? Well, it is found through several researches and studies that one-third of the world have sleep disorders which either they know it or they don’t know it. When we wake up with not so proper sleep it does affect our biological clock and our approaches, our focus for whole day. Insufficient sleep or lack of sleep or not so sound sleep can affect your efficiency at home or offices or studies which eventually can affect your relationships, academics, performance in businesses and collectively – an industry all together.

A lot has been debated/talked about sleep disorders due to rise in use of electronic devices and the world wide web. Have you ever wondered how much is your screen time per day? My interest is more on the blue light from screens which is our enemy at night. That blue light from mobile or laptop screen can actually affect your biological clock and may create lesser secretion of melatonin- a hormone in the body responsible for maintaining the rise & wake up cycle.  Let us not get into more of science now. All I had to say is – it is a silent killer.

What is the solution? There can be many solutions to avoid these devices by addicts so that we do not kill a beautiful thing called sleep. I thought of a box. I call it the ‘8-to-8 box’. How about a “8-to-8 box” which is designed to keep mobiles and other gadgets at night. Yes, let us have a dedicated box in first place to put these gadgets inside the box. At sharp 8 p.m. we can put the gadgets no matter how busy and important person you are. Instead of smartphones, one can keep a small cheaper phone which can only take & receive calls in case you have elderly people to take care of from distant place. At 8 a.m. next morning, you can take out these gadgets and start your day with the world wide web. Simple, isn’t it?

Presently, we are living in the world where we have plenty of things that can de-focus us. And trust me all are so convincing. To remain focussed, our first step is to get a quality of sleep and enough quantity of sleep. A 12-hour break at night from gadgets can substantially improve one’s creativity, lifestyle and maintain one’s emotional balance as well. One can play favourite musical instruments, read a book, may be some painting or a quiet time to reflect on something of your interest after 8 p.m. until bed time.

I got the “8-to-8 box” idea for all who are dragged towards mobile or laptop at night. Do you have a better sleep innovation? Think about it.
